There’s More to Steinhatchee than Fishing
While fishing and scalloping have made the quaint town of Steinhatchee, Florida what it is today, there is so much more to do here beyond casting a reel. Steinhatchee and its surrounding areas are truly the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy nature at its finest. Steinhatchee, Florida is surrounded by unique history and beautiful scenery. With not a high-rise in site, it is one of the best kept secrets of Florida. If you’ve been considering visiting the area, we think you should add these additional activities to your Steinhatchee bucket list.
Explore the Landing
A charming community located up the Steinhatchee River, the Landing feels like a step back in time. Roam the little streets taking in the unique architecture and stumble upon Jimmy Carter’s old vacation home or bring the kids to enjoy the petting zoo. No matter what types of activities you prefer, this quaint community will make you feel like you’re walking through a movie set. And if you are a hopeless romantic, the twinkling lights at night are a must see.
Take in a Sunset at Roy’s
If you’ve done any research on Steinhatchee then you know our sunsets are amazing. Roy’s Restaurant is just over the bridge from Steinhatchee River Club and is located about as far west as you can go on the river before you hit the gulf. It’s over the gulf where some of the most stunning sunsets in all of Florida can be found. Surrounded by nature and little to no light pollution, sunsets are one of a kind at in Steinhatchee, especially at Roy’s.
Enjoy the Falls
While we’re surrounded by water in Florida, waterfalls are not common considering the lack of elevation across the state. But in Steinhatchee we are lucky to have Steinhatchee Falls. Part of the Steinhatchee Springs WMA, the area is perfect for hiking, biking and taking in some of the local wildlife. When its not hunting season, horseback riding can also be a fun activity to enjoy near the Falls. While the Falls aren’t super high, they offer a unique change of scenery, especially for those who visiting from South Georgia and Florida.
Hop Over to Hagen’s Cove
If you follow us on social media, you know that Hagen’s Cove is one of our favorite escapes just around the corner from Steinhatchee. With views of the Pine Islands and stunning beaches this makes for the perfect day trip when visiting Steinhatchee River Club. The best views around can be found from the observation tower on the cove. And if you’re a fan of bird watching, then you’re sure to want to spend a day here, especially around low tide when they start taking advantage of the mudflats. You cannot visit Steinhatchee without exploring this picturesque, waterfront park.
Enjoy Your Fresh Catch the Way You Like It
There’s absolutely nothing better than fresh catch for dinner, especially when it’s your fresh catch! While we know this “must-do” activity involves fishing, we just couldn’t resist having it on our list. Our local restaurants know that after a day on the water the last thing you likely want to do is clean and cook your best catch. That’s why many of the restaurants in town offer you the option to cook your catch for you! Visit Fiddler’s, Kathy’s Krab Shack or Roy’s to have your catch cooked just the way you like it!
